The Investment-Free Solution to Manure Lagoons
Sedron’s Varcor® system was purpose-built to solve the problem of manure management on large dairies and other livestock operations with high volumes of liquid manure. With no upfront cost to the farm and no tipping fee in most cases, Sedron offers much lower manure management costs than traditional methods such as manure lagoons, field application, and stockpiling.
The system is highly scalable, with each Varcor capable of processing the manure from 4,000 cows, whether it is digested or not. Sedron has built projects at large host dairies with up to 20,000 milking cows and as many as five Varcor units. View a map of all Sedron projects.
Sedron builds and operates on-site facilities that convert liquid manure to:
- Clean water suitable for irrigation, watering livestock, process water, or direct discharge to waterways
- Dry, weed-free, pathogen-free solids that can be used as a 3-3-3 organic fertilizer
- An organic concentrated nitrogen fertilizer that is sold to organic growers
Sedron’s in-house agronomists manage all fertilizer off-take, with profit-sharing to the host farm in most cases. Learn more about Sedron’s services for the agricultural sector.
Proven Manure Processing Benefits
A complete, proven manure management solution, the Varcor system delivers 100% pathogen destruction. It’s currently in use at agricultural operations nationwide, where it helps farmers transform their manure problem into tangible economic and environmental benefits.
Eliminates Manure Lagoons and The Application of Liquid Manure
By processing manure in real-time, Varcor eliminates the need for traditional manure lagoons, which are potential sources of odors, air pollution, human health risks, and groundwater contamination. Stockpiles are no longer necessary. As opposed to soil injection of heavy liquid manure that cannot be hauled over long distances, dried manure solids can be hauled more economically with drastically reduced truck traffic.
A Business Opportunity that Reduces Manure Management Costs
The Varcor system reduces agricultural operational costs by significantly curbing manure management expenses. In many cases, depending on manure quality, the farm will pay no manure management fee to Sedron at all, thereby eliminating the cost altogether.
Captures Nutrients and Prevents Pollution
The Varcor captures and concentrates nitrogen and phosphorus for beneficial use in weed-free, pathogen-free fertilizers. It creates an OMRI-listed 3-3-3 solid organic dry fertilizer, as well as an OMRI-listed ammoniacal nitrogen fertilizer. These two fertilizer streams separate the phosphorus from the ammonia, enabling targeted, agronomic use of the nutrients and reducing nutrient pollution. On top of this, Varcor regenerates clean, pure water for animals, irrigation, and aquifer recharge.
Supports Sustainable Farming
The Varcor system is an environmentally sustainable manure management solution that achieves 100% pathogen reduction, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and enables better nutrient management. This sets a foundation for long-term operational success regardless of permitting or regulatory changes. The system also encourages 100% adoption of cover cropping and no-till farming, which regenerates soil health, protects water quality, and sequesters carbon.
